Back To School

Posted on by

It is the first Monday in September and for many children and parents around the world that can only mean one thing. School is starting soon. For many anyway.

There are over two billion children in the world now. Many of them are fortunate enough to have access to education, but there are also many that do not have that privilege. There are approximately 120 million children that receive little to no education. More than half of them are girls.

While media depictions of September are rife with back to school mantras and where to find the best deals on school supplies it is important to have a more global perspective. Not every child has the same opportunities and it is important to not only recognize and appreciate this but also to do something about it.

There are many charities around the world that are fighting to give each child a basic education. From providing funding for schooling to assisting with books and school lunches there are charities working in all aspects of education for children.

While there have been many challenges spawned from the now infamous Ice Bucket Challenge, it would be incredible to take up a new challenge. Find a local community group, a school, a church, an international charity and sponser a child’s education. In many countries in Africa or India this would cost very little and have a dramatic impact.

Perhaps there isn’t an initiative in your local community. Consider getting together with your colleagues or other parents and starting one. You could even partner with a school in another country and raise funds or materials to send to the schools.

Whatever you do, Mycharitymap can help. On Mycharitymap you can find charities both big and small around the world that need your help.
