Walk For Charity!

There are many things that you can do contribute to a charity. Charity walkathons are a great way to motivate yourself to stay active and in addition you can work to contribute to a great cause.

Many different charities around the world host charity walks. They can be either competitive or non-competitive. The races are a way to raise money and spread the word about their cause.

People often select a walk based on the charities that appeal to them the most. Some people choose to walk for a charity that does work related to a cause that impacts them personally.

Whatever the reason, it’s a great way to support a cause. Participants must generally pay a registration fee and/or collect pledges. Collecting pledges involves asking family, friends and colleagues to support your walk by donating money. Participants can raise substantial amounts of money for charities by collecting pledges. There is also the possibility to organize a team, whether it is colleagues, friends or family it can add extra fun to the event.

The walk itself can be a wonderful experience packed with activities, performances and prizes. There are also usually t-shirts for participants, snacks, and special momentos for the events.

In addition people can volunteer to help the charity with the event itself. From helping with registration and setting up to handing out water to participants there is so much to do at these walkathons that charities need all the help they can get.

Last weekend one such event, the Aids Walk in San Francisco, occurred. This event will benefit Project Inform and other Bay Area AIDS service organizations which work to prevent new infections and support those living with HIV/AIDS. The event had a turn out of 20,000 people and raised an estimated $2.3 million.
