World Cancer Day (4th of February)

4th of February is being observed as World Cancer Day. Every Year, on this day, Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) promotes awareness how to fight against a tough disease like cancer with the help of World Health Organisation (WHO) & International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Even United Nations also joining hands to create such awareness program, check http://www.un.org/en/events/observances/days.shtml.

Cancer as everyone knows is a deadly disease till date although scientists and doctors have made some promising breakthroughs so that, if detected in an earlier stage, cancer is curable. Scientifically, cancer is the abnormal growth of cells that spread to a larger area very fast and can hit almost any section of a person. There are some visible and well known reasons of cancer like tobacco smoking, but there happens so many cases where some other factors do come into limelight. A substantial portion can be cured of a cancer attacked person by using of latest medicine, surgery and even by using chemotherapy if and only if the same is being detected much prior. If cancer is in its last stage, there remains hardly any chance to survive.

Avoid exposure to smoke/smoking

Smoking is the main cause of lung cancer among others. The best way to keep off most types of cancer is via quitting smoking or never smoking if you never have.

Practice sun safety & know when your skin changes

Over one millions of individuals worldwide are diagnosed with this type of cancer. Skin cancer is common among most women and men, but this kind of cancer is preventable. The simple and convenient way to prevent this type of cancer is avoiding exposure to UV rays.

Include veggies and fruits in your diet

Feeding on a balanced diet is advantages in reducing the risk of developing cancerous cells in many ways. Vegetables and fruits are rich in antioxidants paramount in repairing damaged cells. Various studies have revealed that dark fruits such as grapes and blueberries have great anti-cancer properties. While cruciferous veggies like cauliflower and broccoli have powerful anticancer characteristics.

Limit animal fat and red meat

Overweight has been shown to raise the risk of cancer especially colon cancer. Red meat is heavily packed with fats. A diet rich in fat is the main cause of obesity, a factor that puts most individual at risk of developing cancer.

Alcohol intake

Excessive alcohol consumption on a regular basis raises the risks of developing most types of cancer including liver and stomach cancer. The risk is more prevalent in women that in their men counterparts.

Proper exercise

Exercising regularly is the best natural way to prevent cancer. Through exercising, the body metabolism increases, and the stored fats are oxidized to provide the body with energy.

Be informed about your family history

Several types of cancer are heredity. For instance breast, ovarian, colon cancer among other are hereditary. If you are a victim of such, inform your doctor to determine whether you are at risk of same and the possible screening method.

Be cautious about your environment

Exposure to chemicals and other pollutants may put one at risk of developing many types of cancer, such as bladder cancer and kidney cancer. These pollutants may include fumes chemical and dust among other. According to the WHO, every worker is supposed to be provided with safety working equipment/gadgets. Most industries expose workers to gasoline, arsenic, diesel exhaust, vinyl chloride, beryllium, coal products, nickel chromates, chloromethyl ethers, and mustard gas among other chemical pollutants. These pollutants are carcinogenic and often expose individual to various types of cancer.

Practice safe sex

Practicing unsafe sex may put you at risk of developing cervical cancer. Unsafe sex may bring about the infection of human papillomavirus (HPV), a factor that puts individuals at risk of many types of cancer including cervical cancer.

Undertake regular cancer screening

Early cancer detection is important in realizing possible treatments. Via the United Nations (UN) initiation, cancer screening is often undertaken in most countries/states all for free. In addition, every 4th of February, many states and countries offers free screening courtesy of WHO.

Human being can keep aside this deadly disease and all medical bodies are ready to devote quality time for cancer aid. Proper medical treatment coupled with some quality doctors who can truly treat a person from both of their expertise and intellect are the only ways to fight cancer. Lots of support groups related to cancer are there for any sort of cancer aid and their presence at every level will help people to detect this disease at earliest.

Cancer, as usual, is one of the deadliest diseases in which people die mostly and as per several socio economic surveys, around 60 – 70% of such death happened in low and medium income level countries. Breast cancer in female along with lung, liver, stomach and colon are the most affected areas of human body and tobacco attributes to become the major source of cancer of all types. With number of people affecting and dying in cancer, lots of initiatives are used to be taken at various levels although, there is no such remedies of this deadly one. One has to be mentally very strong to fight cancer at any stage and age of life and he or she should be ready for any consequences. Though early detection helps in fighting cancer, so the awareness programs are very much relevant for each and every type of people in the society, be a male or female, or a rich else poor.

So, for living a healthy life, to detect early stages, arranging treatments for all concerned and to maximise the quality of life be the main areas of focus on World Cancer Day. This is a global event of every year, takes place in each and every country to create awareness against cancer and to save millions of people round the year. Fight Cancer is the motto of every people associated with this and everyone is confident of fighting cancer in a better way than yesterday. This approach can only lead to a cancer free world in coming days as this eradication is need to be done at any cost else cancer can turn as an epidemic and then no cancer aid will be sufficient to stop that. Even social networking sites are also taken into consideration to inform a large section of digital people all over the world and several celebrities are already started to tweet urging people to come forward and remove cancer. In every part of the world, awareness programs will take place with the catch line “Fight Cancer” either in the form of inaugurating a counselling centre hotline to intimate public about the same or showing some video presentations on the outcome of this deadly disease if products like tobacco are being taken on regular interval.
